| USB interface cable for R/C simulator |
This is an USB interface cable for R/C simulator. The device looks like a standard HID joystick for operating system and converts up to 8 PPM channels from transmitter into joystick axes and optionally - buttons. If you know about radio controlled models and their PC simulators such like FMS, Aerofly Pro Deluxe, RealFlight G2/G3 and Reflex XTR, and if you are an owner of PPM transmitter box then you definitely know how to use this device.
The heart of this project is ATMega8 that receives the PPM signal from radio control then send to PC vai USB 1.1 interface without dedicated USB hardware. If you want to know how to implement a USB 1.1 compliant low-speed device for Atmel's AVR microcontrollers you should learn from Oleg Semyonov's website.
In this project I have uesd an Opto-isolator(use PC817 like RS-232 version) for the input of circuit instead of NPN transistor as show in the original circuit designed by Vadim Kushnir and Vitaly Puzrin.Check out their website.
I have tested this project with Futaba 4EX and 6EX it works fine. But for Futaba T7CAP and T7CHP you must use the original circuit becuase these models have weak signal on the trainer connector output I don't know why.But don't worry I have designed two version of PCB one for Vadim Kushnir and Vitaly Puzrin's schematic and one for my schematic which you can download at the bottom of this page.
